Why people leave WHOOP
A $199 to $359 yearly membership is expensive for a screenless band
No display means every interaction requires opening your phone
Battery needs charging every 4-5 days, which disrupts continuous tracking
Recovery and strain data is interesting but the app doesn't coach you on what to do with it
Limited functionality without the subscription - the hardware is useless without a paid membership
What to look for
Recovery and HRV tracking that's actually actionable - not just displayed
Coaching that tells you what to do based on your readiness score
A form factor and price structure that makes sense for your budget
Integration with other health data (nutrition, workouts) for complete coaching
No surprise hardware costs on top of subscription fees
WHOOP alternatives worth considering
Oura Ring
The most accurate passive recovery tracker in a ring form factor
Best for: People who want hardware-grade accuracy for sleep and HRV without a wrist device. The ring is the most comfortable form factor for 24/7 tracking and sleep staging.
Garmin
GPS watches with Body Battery, HRV Status, and training load
Best for: Endurance athletes who want GPS tracking, body battery scoring, and recovery metrics in a full-featured sports watch without a separate monthly subscription for the app.
Apple Watch
Full-featured smartwatch with deep health tracking
Best for: iPhone users who want HRV, sleep stages, heart rate, and activity tracking in one device with deep iOS integration and no additional hardware subscription.
Where Vora fits
We make Vora, so it is not in the list above. Here is what it does, and what to know before you switch from WHOOP.
Vora turns the WHOOP value proposition on its head: instead of paying $199 to $359 a year for hardware that shows you data, Vora uses the wearable you already own - Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, or Oura - and adds an AI coaching layer that tells you what to actually do with your recovery data.
Vora's readiness score weighs muscle recovery from your workouts, last night's sleep, HRV against your two-week average, training load and resting heart rate, and below 40 your daily plan suggests a rest and recovery day. On training days, Vora's AI writes workouts from your recent training, per-muscle recovery, goals and equipment; turning a suggestion into a workout you can start needs Vora Pro. Vora also logs food and tracks sleep and cycles in the same app.
Vora is free to use, and Vora Pro is $12.99 a month or $89.99 a year. If you already have an Apple Watch or a Garmin, you do not need new hardware.
- Reads Apple Watch through Apple Health and connects directly to Garmin, Oura, Fitbit and WHOOP (beta)
- Sleep, Recovery and Strain scores, free on every plan
- A readiness score that decides when your daily plan suggests a rest day
- HRV trending, sleep stage analysis, and strain tracking
- Free to use; Vora Pro is $12.99/month or $89.99/year
Limits to know
- The direct WHOOP connection is in beta with limited spots, and it does not import WHOOP's recovery score or day strain.
- Garmin's Body Battery and Training Readiness scores are not imported.
- Samsung Health does not share HRV, resting heart rate or respiratory rate with Vora.
- Direct Fitbit spots are limited while Google verifies Vora's Fitbit access.
- Chat with Vora, in the app or with Vora AI Text, is free for 10 messages a day. Vora Pro raises that to 100.

Common questions
What is the best cheap WHOOP alternative?
It depends on what you already own. An Apple Watch tracks HRV, sleep stages, heart rate and activity with no additional hardware subscription, and Garmin watches include Body Battery, HRV Status and training load without a separate monthly subscription for the app. Oura Ring 5 costs $399 to $499 plus a $5.99/month membership. We make Vora, which reads data from those devices, so we don't rank it here.
Is Oura Ring better than WHOOP?
Oura Ring and WHOOP track similar metrics through different form factors. Oura is generally considered more accurate for sleep staging due to its finger-based sensors, and has no screen requirement. WHOOP's strain scoring is well-regarded by athletes. Oura Ring 5 costs $399 to $499 plus a $5.99/month membership.
Can I use WHOOP data with Vora?
Yes. Vora's direct WHOOP connection, free on iPhone and Android, imports HRV, resting heart rate, blood oxygen, skin temperature, sleep stages and workouts with strain. It does not import WHOOP's recovery score or day strain, and it is in beta with limited spots. WHOOP data can also reach Vora through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android.
Does Vora track strain like WHOOP?
Vora has its own Strain score alongside its Sleep and Recovery scores, free on every plan, and strength sets you log in Vora count toward muscle recovery and strain. Vora calculates these itself rather than importing WHOOP's day strain, and WHOOP's strain scoring is tuned to its own sensor, so the two numbers can differ.
