How we rated the WHOOP
Our own assessment of a device we do not sell, weighted across six dimensions: accuracy 30 percent, coverage 20 percent, battery 15 percent, value 15 percent, comfort 10 percent, app and ecosystem 10 percent. Every score links to its source: independent testing, or the brand's own page for current-model specs and prices.
Strong nocturnal resting HR and HRV and near-perfect HR at the biceps, but wrist optical HR clearly degrades in high-intensity work and the device ranks third behind both Oura generations.
Against a Polar H10 ECG reference, WHOOP scored RHR concordance 0.91 (MAPE 3.00 percent, MAE 1.78 bpm) and HRV concordance 0.94 (MAPE 8.17 percent), ranking third behind both Oura generations while remaining ahead of Garmin and Polar; the5krunner separately measured a clear drop in wrist optical HR accuracy during HYROX-style high-intensity work versus 0.98 correlation at the biceps. Fully delivers on its recovery-band promise (strain, recovery, HRV, sleep, stress) and MG adds an FDA-cleared ECG plus overnight blood-pressure estimation, but it carries no built-in GPS.
Reviewer confirms deep strain and recovery coaching plus MG on-demand ECG and overnight blood-pressure estimation, but lists no built-in GPS as a con (distance and pace need the phone or Strava). the5krunner WHOOP 5.0/MG review ↗
Independently verified 14 to 15 day real-world battery with a slide-on charger that tops it up without removal, a major jump from the 4.0.
TechGearLab measured 14 to 15 days per charge dependent on usage, with the ability to charge while wearing via a slide-on battery pack. TechGearLab WHOOP 5.0 review ↗
Screenless, minimal band that testers say disappears on the body for 24/7 wear, with occasional strap adjustment between sleep and workouts.
TechGearLab rated wearability 7.0 out of 10, saying you will need someone to remind you it is even there, with only occasional adjustment needed between sleeping and workouts. TechGearLab WHOOP 5.0 review ↗
One of the most polished apps in the category with clean auto-export to third-party platforms, so it feeds a coach like Vora well.
TechGearLab scored data and dashboards 9.0 out of 10, calling it one of the most intuitive and detailed apps tested, and confirmed auto-uploads to Strava, Apple Health, and Garmin Connect. TechGearLab WHOOP 5.0 review ↗
Hardware is bundled but the device is inert without a recurring membership of 199 to 359 dollars a year, the single most-cited drawback across reviews.
Current 2026 US tiers are WHOOP One 199 dollars/yr, Peak 239 dollars/yr, and Life (MG hardware) 359 dollars/yr, with the band bundled free but becoming inert the moment the subscription lapses. TrackerVS WHOOP pricing 2026 ↗

Best recovery-first setup
WHOOP drives the strain-and-recovery loop while Oura adds passive sleep and temperature. Vora decides what to actually do with both signals.
